Jan Boland (flute) and John Dowdall (guitar) are the Directors and Core Professional Ensemble of Red Cedar Chamber Music.
David Miller (viola) joins Jan and John to form the Red Cedar Trio.
I have enjoyed a wonderful collaboration with Red Cedar Chamber Music for many years. The core group consists of Jan Boland, flute (and Executive Director), and John Dowdall, guitar (and Artistic Director). This performing ensemble, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has received much acclaim for their musicianship and technique, as well as for their innovative programming. Musicians of the highest caliber, they are also delightful people to work with, and through the years we've become good personal friends.
Some of my recent projects for Red Cedar Chamber Music include "A Holiday Suite" (a set of five carol arrangements) and one of the movements of the "Spillville Variations on a Theme by Dvořák" (a group-commissioning project).
A number of future projects with Red Cedar Chamber Music are in the works, including "The Four Seasons of Iowa" (a somewhat humorous portrayal of our slightly wacky weather here in the Midwest), and "A Red Cedar Holiday Celebration" (a series of concerts featuring my holiday compositions for Red Cedar Chamber Music). I look forward to many more collaborations with this creative and energetic group!
